Moving Beyond Contracts: A Strategic Approach to Transportation Portfolio Mgmt

Traditional long-term contracts are not the only – nor the best – way to secure transportation capacity or win business in many cases. However, they remain the dominant form of outsourced transportation relationships. In this session, Dr. Acocella discusses her research that highlights the unintentional costs of the conventional contract-focused strategy and how a segmentation strategy and portfolio of relationships can result in improved supplier performance and lower costs. In addition, we discuss how automation and AI have been applied to support strategic transportation procurement decisions in practice.
