The Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) in Zaragoza, Spain, has been designated the lead center in the country’s new National Center of Excellence in Logistics. The designation affirms ZLC’s status as a major center for supply chain education and research.

The Ministry of Education and Science in Spain has established the Centro Nacional de Competencia en Logística Integral (National Center of Excellence in Logistics) as a hub for the promotion and practice of scientific research in the field.  The Minister of Education and Science, Dª María Jesús San Segundo Gómez de Cadiñanos, signed the framework agreement spanning three leading research institutes in Spain.

The Centro Nacional de Competencia en Logística Integral, (CNC-LOGISTICA) combines the strength of three research institutes: ITENE (Instituto Tecnológico del Embalaje, Transporte y Logística) in Valencia; CTL Cantabria (Centro Tecnológico en Logística Integral de Cantabria); and ZLC (Zaragoza Logistics Center) in Aragón, which is the coordinating center.

The CNC was established by the Spanish Ministry, according to the objectives of the National Plan of Research, Development, and Innovation 2004-2007, to offer technological support to large corporations and small- to medium-sized enterprises.  It will actively involve companies in research and development activities, work with companies to develop future industry leaders, and transfer to companies the latest scientific and technological advances in logistics and supply chain management.
