Abstract

Supply Chain Frontiers issue #34. Read all articles in this issue.

The MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (MIT CTL) has announced a symposium on extending risk management to global supply networks. The “Expanding the Boundaries of Risk Management” symposium will take place December 1–2, 2009, on the MIT campus, and is open to MIT CTL partners.

Companies can no longer afford to limit their supply chain risk horizons to local operations. Disruptions can quickly ripple through global supply networks, undermine performance at multiple locations, and cause commercial damage that persists long after the original incident.

To help companies reduce their vulnerability to highly damaging network disruptions, MIT CTL has launched a series of research projects that address supply chain risk at the global, operational, and infrastructural levels. The center has also developed a unique risk mitigation simulator model that gives managers “hands on” experience of network breakdowns.

This symposium will present the latest findings of MIT CTL’s groundbreaking risk management research projects. Attendees will also participate in a supply chain disruption simulation exercise based on real-world scenarios.

The event brings together MIT CTL partner companies and risk management leaders to examine how disruptions flow through global supply networks and which risk mitigation strategies are the most effective. To ensure that every attendee can fully participate in the discussions and the simulation, the Center is limiting the number of seats available. Please register as early as possible to secure a place.
