Supply Chain Frontiers Issue #27. Read all articles in this issue

The supply chains that support retailing in India will be the subject of a major MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics conference on October 29, 2008 on the MIT campus in Cambridge, MA.

The “Building Retail Supply Chains in India” conference will feature leading speakers from academia and industry, who will explore the dynamics of India's growing retail industry and consider the challenges to supply of the various new retail formats. “Relatively few companies outside India have a deep knowledge of the country’s retailing industry, and through our symposium we intend to shed new light on the supply chains that will play a critical role in the industry's development over the next few years" said MIT-CTL Deputy Director Jim Rice.

Companies that plan to expand in India or already have a presence in the country should send key leaders to the symposium. The event will also be of interest to investment organizations considering investments in India as well as other emerging markets to better understand the key dynamics and issues in emerging markets, suggested Rice.

The conference is the first in a planned series of large-scale events that profile major supply chain challenges across the globe. The series will draw on the MIT Global SCALE Network, an international alliance of leading research centers dedicated to the  development of supply chain and logistics excellence through innovation. The SCALE network was launched in March of this year.
