Abstract

Supply Chain Frontiers issue #17. Read all articles in this issue.

There is no substitute for sound preparation, which is why the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL) is offering a workshop on business continuity, November 28 to 29, 2006, in Cambridge, Mass.

Business disruptions come in many forms from the failure of a major supplier to a natural disaster. Supply chain managers must play a key role when disaster strikes and companies shift into emergency response and business continuity modes of operation.

CTL’s Business Continuity Planning Workshop will take managers through a real-time simulation of a large-scale business disruption – specifically an avian flu outbreak. As the unfolding events disrupt a global supply chain and threaten to overwhelm the organization, participants will take on the roles of responders across corporate disciplines, who must work together to develop and execute response and continuity strategies. This workshop will not only better prepare attendees for the next major business disruption, but it will also show them how adversity can be turned into competitive advantage by making their organizations more resilient and reactive.
