Where should I stay for on-campus events?

MIT has several preferred hotels in the campus area. Listed below are three hotels located in Kendall Square, that are within a 5-minute walk to CTL’s office.

A complete list of MIT-recommended hotels can be found here.  Additionally, MIT is on the Charles River across from Boston, which has numerous hotel options. Many are accessible to CTL’s office using the MBTA subway (“The T”).  One we recommend is the Cambria Hotel Boston, Downtown-South Boston (link) that is right on the Red Line of the T.

Where is the nearest airport?

Logan International Airport serves the Boston area, additional information about Logan Airport can be found here

What is the best way to travel from the airport to campus?

Getting from Logan to MIT is best accomplished using cabs, ride-share apps such as Uber/Lyft, or the MBTA.  We highly discourage using rental cars within Cambridge and Boston. Uber & Lyft  have specific pickup areas at Logan Airpot, see this MassPort App/TNC page for more information. If you prefer public transportation, use airport transit to arrive at South Station and then take the MBTA ("T") Red Line to the Kendall/MIT stop.

If I drive, how do I get there and where can I park?

We strongly encourage visitors not to drive to campus. Cambridge traffic is usually awful, the layout of the roads is confusing, and, although there is public parking at the Hayward Parking Garage, and other public lots in Kendall Square, it is pretty expensive and unpredictably limited. If you must drive to campus it, then your best bet is to set your address for the Hayward Parking Garage, accessible at 33 Amherst Street, and keep your fingers crossed.
