The inaugural research meeting of the MIT Efficient Healthcare Delivery Research Group (MEHD) will take place on September 18, 2007, on the MIT campus.

Launched by the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL), the MEHD Group will drive innovation in healthcare supply chain management.  The highly complex and fragmented healthcare industry is in need of bold new approaches.  In launching the initiative, CTL is inspired by experience in industries such as manufacturing, retail, high tech, and others, where far-reaching transformations of industry structures have been brought about by strategies grounded in supply chain management.

A number of leading companies have already signed up for this important research initiative. “We are looking for more charter members in all branches of healthcare to give us a group that represents every sector in the system,” said David Riquier, the Group’s Program Director. “These companies will make a positive contribution to healthcare,” he added, “and at the same time evolve their own strategies to master the deep changes that are in store.”

At the invitation-only meeting this September charter members of the MEHD Group will discuss the research agenda and operational framework for the program.
