The difficult economic climate did not deter more than 200 people from attending the Leaders of the Value Chain conference in Bogota, Colombia, May 6, 2009, organized by supply chain research and education company LOGyCA and the Center for Latin-American Logistics Innovation (CLI).
Attendees heard five industry leaders talk about the developments that are shaping value chains across the globe. Professor Yossi Sheffi, head of the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics, Cambridge, MA, in the United States, gave a detailed account of supply chain management in turbulent economies. Jayne Franchino, Vice President Global Operations, IBM, provided some insights into the global structure of IBM’s supply chain management team. Another global company, supply chain services organization DHL, puts much emphasis on the value of innovation, and Keith Ulrich, DHL’s chief manager of Technology and Research, explained how this philosophy is supported by a robust research effort. Santiago Kraiselburd is Executive Director of the Zaragoza Logistics Center, Zaragoza, Spain, and his presentation dealt with the link between supply chain and finance.
The conference was the first of its kind to be organized by CLI, and it will now be an annual event.
