![]() | Luca Urciuoli, PhD Presentation: The Impact of Uncertainty on Food Supply Chain Resilience Bio: Dr. Luca Urciuoli is an Adjunct Professor of Supply Chain Management at the MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program, an Associate Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), and a Research Affiliate at MIT CTL. He holds an MSc in Industrial Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology and a PhD from Lund University. Previously, he worked at Volvo Group’s research unit, managing projects on telematics services for transport optimization and security. His research focuses on e-Customs, trade facilitation, supply chain security, risk and resilience, and digital supply chains. He has published extensively in leading journals and holds a U.S. patent on telematics security. His work has been recognized with awards in Sweden and Germany and funded by private and governmental institutions. Dr. Urciuoli has also contributed to the Physical Internet initiative and has been an invited speaker at global forums, including the World Customs Organization and the World Bank Group. |
![]() | Jarrod Goentzel, PhD Presentation: Supply Chain Resilience: Learning to Adapt to Supply Chain Disruptions Bio: Dr. Jarrod Goentzel is Founder and Director of the MIT Humanitarian Supply Chain Lab and a Principal Research Scientist at the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics. His research focuses on improving humanitarian response and strengthening supply chains serving vulnerable communities through better management, information systems, and decision support technology. He works closely with private sector, government, and humanitarian organizations worldwide. Dr. Goentzel has developed courses in humanitarian logistics, international operations, and supply chain finance, and he uses simulation games to build leadership skills. Previously, he was Executive Director of the MIT Supply Chain Management (SCM) Program. He also helped establish the Zaragoza Logistics Center in Spain, the first node in the MIT Global SCALE Network. Dr. Goentzel holds a Ph.D. from the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. |
![]() | Mohammed Ismail Alhussam, PhD Presentation: International Trade Tensions and Shifting from Global to Regional Supply Chains Bio: Dr. Mohammed Ismail Alhussam is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Ningbo China Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (NISCI). He previously completed a Postdoctoral fellowship at Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) in 2023, focusing on detecting machine status using probabilistic machine-learning methods. He earned his Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering from Jiangsu University in 2020 and holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Statistics and Information Systems from the University of Aleppo. Dr. Alhussam integrates nonlinear probabilistic methods, econometrics, and operations research to analyze management and economic systems. His research interests include food trade, sustainable food security, and decision support systems. |
