A shortage of truck drivers to carry American freight is a perennial and endemic problem in American logistics. First-pass solutions, including simply raising pay, and/or increasing time at home, seem so far to be insufficient to the scale of the problem.

In this research talk, Dr. Correll will synthesize what his Driver Initiative team has learned about: (1) what stops us from getting more out of the existing cadre of American long-haul truck drivers; and (2) how we can train machine learning algorithms to read ELD and telematics data in order to predict costly truck driver resignations before they occur.
