Postdoctoral Associate

Dr. Juan Carlos Piña Pardo is a Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT Megacity Logistics Lab. His research focuses on developing optimization models for vehicle routing and distribution network design in the context of urban last-mile logistics. Dr. Juan Carlos received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV), where he was advised by Dr. Ricardo A. Gatica from PUCV and Dr. Alice E. Smith from Auburn University. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the MIT Global Supply Chain and Logistics Excellence Network.

During his Ph.D. studies, Dr. Juan Carlos was a visiting scholar at MIT under Dr. Matthias Winkenbach, where he was funded by the 2020 INFORMS Transportation Science and Logistics Society Cross-Regional Doctoral Grant. He also was a two-time visiting scholar at Auburn University under Dr. Alice E. Smith. While working as a lecturer at PUCV, Dr. Juan Carlos received the 2020 PUCV Distinguished Teaching Award, which recognizes excellence in teaching based on student surveys.
