Military Fellow

Lieutenant Colonel Duston Mullen enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1992. He joined the Army National Guard in 2002, mobilizing and deploying in support of Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Inherent Resolve.

Lieutenant Colonel Mullen received his commission in 2007. His Professional Military Education includes the Basic Officer Leader Course, 2007 Fort Benning, GA; the Ordnance Officer Basic Course, 2008 Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland; the Logistics Captains Career Course 2014, Fort Lee, VA; the Command and Staff College Common Core, 2017 Fort Leavenworth, KS; and the Advance Operations Course, 2019 Fort Leavenworth, KS.

Prior to his arrival at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lieutenant Colonel Mullen was assigned to the 196th Regiment, South Dakota Army National Guard as Commander, 2nd Battalion. His previous command assignments include Commander, Company B, 139th Brigade Support Battalion; Commander, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 196th Regiment.

Lieutenant Colonel Mullen holds a Master of Military Science degree from Black Hills State University with emphasis in Strategic Leadership.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with 1 OLC, the Army Achievement Medal with 3 OLC and C device, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Operation Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal with 2 stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Combat Action Badge.
