Abstract

The author makes the case that there are 5 key supply chain capabilities that are necessary in order for companies to profitably serve emerging markets. These capabilities include:

  1. high-resolution customer segmentation
  2. holistic product design
  3. tailored supply strategies
  4. complex distribution management, and
  5. an entrepreneurially-driven organization.

Blanco further states that supply chains for emerging markets need to be both cheap and of high quality, and that advances made in emerging markets’ supply chains can often carry over profitably to a company’s supply chains in developed markets.
