Abstract

Supply Chain Frontiers issue #33. Read all articles in this issue.

The most extensive non-formal education program of its kind in Latin America, the Graduate Certificate in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (GC-LOG), started in July 2009, and will continue in the United States in 2010.

Fifteen students from Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil studied for three weeks in Bogotá, Colombia, where they were hosted by logistics education and research organization LOGyCA. Next January, the students will complete the certificate on the MIT campus in Boston.

Offered by the Center for Latin American Logistics Innovation (CLI) and presented by MIT CTL faculty, the program aims to train aspiring logistics and supply chain professionals in the region. MIT CTL and LOGyCA designed the syllabus, with an emphasis on three basic strengths: analytical problem-solving capacity, understanding how solutions must be connected to technology, and the capacity to become supply chain leaders.

Students who are currently attending specialization or master-level programs in logistics, business management, and industrial engineering — or similar programs in universities that are a part of the CLI partner network — are eligible for participation in the program. Starting next year, persons working in companies that are strategic partners of the CLI also may compete for the limited spaces available for this program.
