The MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (MIT CTL) will present two keynote sessions at the Annual Global Conference 2009 of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) in Chicago, September 22, 2009.

The early-morning major session will be delivered by Dr. Prashant Yadav, Professor of Supply Chain Management at the MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program in Spain. Yadav and his research team are at the forefront of global efforts to build supply chains that deliver health care more efficiently to low-income countries such as Africa.

In his presentation titled, “Improving Health in the World and Saving Lives with More Effective Supply Chains,” Yadav will describe the latest results of his research, and explain how supply chains can play a crucial role in solving some of the world’s most intractable problems.

In the afternoon, MIT CTL’s Hot Topics session — now a well-established feature of the annual conference — will focus on the lessons that supply chain professionals need to learn in order to succeed in emerging markets. The session, “Learning to Compete in Emerging Markets,” will offer attendees a unique opportunity to gain insights from experts with on-the-ground experience of supply chain management in these countries.

MIT CTL Executive Director of the MIT CLI Alliance, Dr. Edgar Blanco, will begin the session with a brief presentation on new research in this area. A panel session will follow that includes Girindre Beeharry, Deputy Director, Global Health Delivery, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Professor Nukala Viswanadham, Executive Director of the Center for Global Logistics and Manufacturing Strategies at the Indian Business School; and Carlos M. Seminario, Planning and Sourcing Director, Unilever in South America.
