Abstract

Supply Chain Frontiers issue #53

The case study "Cisco Systems, Inc., Supply Chain Risk Management," developed by M.J. Sáenz, MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program at the Zaragoza Logistics Center, and E. Revilla, IE Business School, has won the 2013 EFMD Case Writing Award in the "Supply Chain Management" category.

Communications technology provider Cisco Systems, Inc. is the subject of the case study. The authors describe the vulnerabilities of Cisco’s supply chain portfolio, as well as the evolution of the organization’s approach to supply chain risk management and how it connects to overall business strategy.

Cisco’s approach to managing risk is proactive in the design phase and reactive in deployment. The case study shows how the strategy helped the company to recover from the tsunami that devastated parts of Japan in 2011.
