Abstract

Supply Chain Frontiers issue #49

Spain's first Information Technology and Communications demonstration center for the logistics industry was inaugurated in Zaragoza, Spain, on April 15, 2013.

The facility was launched by ITA - The Aragónese Institute of Technology- in collaboration with the Government of Aragón and the Ministry of Industry in Spain, through the public entity Red.es, with an investment of 2.3 million euros (about $3 million at today's prices). Businesses can use the center to test different technologies, particularly with regard to how various solutions improve competitiveness.

"This initiative complements other logistics activities in Aragón like the Zaragoza Logistics Center", says Arturo Aliaga, Minister of Industry and Innovation of the Government of Aragón.

Logistics represents about 5% of the Aragónese economy and the region has been making big investments in both infrastructures and innovation during the last decade.

As Mr. Javier Navarro Espada, General of Industry and SMEs of the Government of Aragón, says, "Zaragoza Logistics Center has played a key role in bringing this Technology and Communications demonstration center to Zaragoza".
