Abstract

Supply Chain Frontiers issue #46

SWIFT, the Belgium-based organization that sponsors research in the financial services industry, has awarded The Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (MISI) funding for a project to analyze small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) value chains. One of the goals is to enhance SME financial supply chains.

The project will focus on SMEs in the agri-food industry, where companies are facing challenges such as unpredictable consumer demand, globalization, and the liberalization of markets. In addition to improving the operational performance of SMEs, the researchers aim to explore the need for an integrated financial supply chain for these businesses. An area of particular interest is how technology can be used to facilitate information sharing and faster transactions.

The four-phase project is scheduled to begin in November of this year, and to be completed in June, 2013.
