Abstract

Supply Chain Frontiers issue #46

In terms of supply chain planning, is it better to be prepared by developing long-range plans or to be agile and responsive to change over the short run? Find out the current thinking on this dilemma by attending the Supply Chain Planning: Exploring the Trade-Off between Planning and Execution Roundtable, August 29, 2012, on the MIT campus, Cambridge, MA, US.

This special event is organized by the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (MIT CTL). It will explore where the trade-offs are between developing the optimal plan ahead of time versus building in a highly flexible and responsive execution system. The answer lies somewhere in the middle, and most likely is dependent on the organization and the details of its operating characteristics.

MIT CTL roundtables are highly interactive events focused on exchange and discussion among the participants. Topics and content come from the attendees, and each component session is introduced by a leader from industry. Since the emphasis is on open discussion, formal presentations are not a central feature of these events. However, participants are expected to take part in the discussions and share their experiences and insights.

Please note that, in order to facilitate roundtable discussions, the number of attendees will be limited.
