Supply Chain Frontiers issue #6. Read all articles in this issue

The MIT Supply Chain 2020 project is ramping up in Europe with the engagement of students and faculty at the Zaragoza Logistics Center, Zaragoza, Spain.

Complementing the CTL research effort in the United States, the Zaragoza SC2020 team is focusing on supply chain excellence in a variety of industries. It is profiling several case study companies to uncover the characteristics and underlying principles that make an excellent supply chain. For example, researchers are working with leading German retailer Metro Group to analyze excellence in the retail supply chain, and are looking at the pharmaceutical industry in Europe.

Metro Group's Axel Hopp, who is also a member of the SC2020 European Advisory Council (EAC), is advising a project team. "This research will help us to understand the factors that are critical to successful supply chains," said Hopp.

The retailer will be hosting the next face-to-face meeting of the EAC. The meeting will take place on March 22, 2005, at the Metro Group RFID Innovation Center, Neuss, near Dusseldorf, Germany. The Center is a showcase for leading edge technologies, and Council members will be given a tour of the facility.

The SC2020 European Advisory Council has 14 members. For the full list of members, and information on joining the project, go here. Larry Lapide, the CTL Research Director who is heading the project, can be contacted at: llapide@MIT.EDU.
