Supply Chain Frontiers Issue #24. Read all articles in this issue

MIT-CTL is planning to re-launch Sensors Watch, the Supply Chain 2020 (SC2020) blog, in order to incorporate some new functionality.  The re-launch is scheduled for February 2008.

SC2020 is a multi-year research program to identify and analyze the factors that are critical to the success of future supply chains. Sensors Watch gets its name from the “sensors in the ground” concept that was developed by the SC2020 team.  The sensors are key trends and other influences that shape supply chains. By monitoring and understanding these factors, companies can be better prepared for changes that could fundamentally alter the competitive landscape.

The blog was created by the SC2020 researchers to track and identify sensors and stimulate discussion about them. In this way the team aims to provide timely information about significant, future-defining events.  “The project has been very successful, and we have a regular following of participants who engage in on-line discussions about the sensors and the implications for future supply chains,” said Mahender Singh, who heads up MIT-CTL’s SC2020 program.

The re-launched site will offer some important refinements. For example, the SC2020 team will trawl other blogs and sites for key words and terms that denote important trends. By analyzing the extant information around these terms using qualitative content analysis techniques, the researchers will be able to identify key sensors to watch, and explore the implications for supply chains.
