Abstract

Warehouse automation is expanding rapidly as companies respond to rising e-commerce complexity, labor shortages, and pressure for faster deliveries. This study addresses technology adoption practices in modern warehouses from a workforce and labor management standpoint. A literature review and a structured survey of 322 warehouse technology decision-makers were conducted, identifying warehouse technology trends, main workforce-related challenges, relevant skills and gaps, training practices and their effectiveness, and emerging roles integration. Results show that firms with more extensive warehouse technology adoption plans follow recommended practices more closely and that effective training can reduce skills gaps. Effectively using a broader mix of training methods and integrating emerging roles enables warehouse technology transformation.
