The 2025 State of Supply Chain Sustainability report, produced by the MIT Sustainable Supply Chain Lab and CSCMP, provides a global view of how organizations are turning sustainability commitments into action. Based on insights from 1,200 professionals in 97 countries, the study finds that most companies are maintaining their sustainability goals despite regulatory and economic uncertainty, though many still struggle to embed these commitments into daily operations.
The report highlights three key themes: the varying influence of government regulations across regions; the persistent challenges of managing Scope 3 emissions, which comprise over 75% of corporate carbon footprints; and the decarbonization of freight, where companies are weighing near-term and long-term solutions such as biofuels, battery-electric vehicles, and hydrogen. Overall, the findings show that leading organizations are moving from intention to implementation by integrating sustainability into core supply chain practices.
