Dr. Susana Val is the Director of Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC). She is also Associate Research Professor at MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program, Research Affiliate at the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics and Principal Investigator for the Transport Research Group.

She obtained both a PhD and MSc degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of Zaragoza. Her PhD Dissertation was awarded first Prize by CEL (Centro Español de Logística) University in 2008. Furthermore, she studied the Master of Engineering and Logistics at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

Throughout her research activity at ZLC, she has led more than 20 research projects, collaborating with companies and entities such as Halliburton, Panalpina, P&G, Beiersdorf, Leo Pharma, SLB, Schindler, BSH, SAICA and the Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), among others.

Her current research activities are focused on logistics and urban distribution; notably on best practices, new policies for development, innovations and modelling of urban areas for freight distribution. She has also participated in several projects and research studies relating to multimodal transport and green corridors, with particular emphasis on the calculation of carbon footprint. Finally, she also collaborates in research projects in the field of logistics infrastructures and air freight, as well as on the impact of intermodality in supply chains.

As a result of her research she has published a number of chapters in books such as Springer and articles in different journals such as Supply Chain Management Review, Transportation Planning and Technology, and International Journal of Procurement Management.
