Dr. Haiying Jia is a visiting scholar at the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics. She is a research scientist at the Center for Applied Research at NHH (Norwegian School of Economics). Dr. Jia had been working in the finance industry before joining academia and her research interests include shipping economics, energy economics and international trades. She has been working on projects in the areas of maritime big data application, with particular focus on fuel efficiency, emission accounting and environmental impacts of the international shipping industry. Currently Dr. Jia is working together with the team at MIT CTL on digitization and the application of smart contract in charter parties in the ocean transportation industry.
Haiying Jia holds a Ph.D. in Finance with focus on commodity derivatives, which she earned from Cass Business School in London in 2006. She also earned a M.Sc. degree in shipping economics and a Bachelor's degree in logistics engineering, both from Dalian Maritime University in China.
