MIT CTL and LOGyCA Launch Specialized Logistics Program in Latin America
15 Specialization and Masters Level Logistics Students from Different Countries in Latin America will be the First to Experience the GC-LOG

Bogota, Columbia - LOGyCA will be hosting 15 specialization and masters level students from Mexico, Colombia and Brazil who will participate in the inaugural Graduate Certificate in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (GC-LOG) Program - the most extensive non-formal education program in Latin America - offered by the Center for Latin American Logistics Innovation (CLI) in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Transportation and Logistics (MIT CTL). The Center for Latin American Logistics Innovation (CLI) was established to pursue top-level research and educational instruction in logistics needs that have been identified by the companies and universities across Latin America that make up its network of members.

The first of its kind in Latin America, this program will provide students with world-class training in logistics and supply chain management by combining the latest studies on worldwide value chain management with regional business case studies that will be taught by professors from MIT CTL. The syllabus of the GC-LOG was designed by experts from both MIT and LOGyCA and offers students the opportunity to benefit from MIT CTL’s 30 years of innovation and academic excellence, as well as LOGyCA’s 20 years of experience as a facilitator for the development of logistics strategies that impact the competitiveness of Colombian companies. The main goal of the GC-LOG is to train professionals in multi-disciplinary logistics skills and develop supply chain managers who will have three core strengths: analytical problem-solving, knowledge of the vital role technology plays in resolving value chain issues, and the capacity to become leaders in this increasingly crucial field. In the words of Edgar Blanco, MIT CTL Executive Director of the CLI, “This is a unique opportunity for people who are interested in extending their knowledge of value chain management to receive training in an MIT-backed program that focuses on the specific needs of Latin America in the area of logistics.”

Students who attend the GC-LOG Program will spend 3 weeks on the LOGyCA campus in Bogota, Columbia during the month of July, 2009, and will complete the program in the United States over the course of two weeks in January, 2010, at the MIT campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Students who are currently attending specialization or masters level programs in logistics, business management, industrial engineering and similar programs in universities that are a part of the CLI partner network are eligible for participation in the program. Starting next year, persons working in companies that are CLI Strategic Partners will also be elligible to apply for the limited spaces available for this program.
