Company Customized Workshop
How can a company effectively plan for a future full of uncertainty? Forecasting only extrapolates on current knowns; it excludes uncertainty and plans for just one future. Scenario Planning, on the other hand, is a strategic planning method that enables companies to create flexible, long-term plans for any future – to prepare them for any uncertainty.
In MIT-CTL’s Scenario Planning Workshop, executives are presented with a set of scenarios – each a specially constructed model of a distinct, plausible view of the future. The purpose is not to pinpoint future events, but to highlight large-scale, driving forces that push the future in different directions. By working within the bounds of these scenarios, they are able to think productively about contingencies and alternatives. They will learn to work with uncertainty rather than try to eliminate it from forecasts, and through these exercises develop a more robust strategy to identify and confront future challenges.
