Company-Customized Workshop

Aligning Your Supply Chain with Your Corporate Strategy

The first step in aligning your supply chain is getting your supply chain people aligned.  Once your people are trained and on board, strategic alignment can happen.

The Problem
Supply chain executives and managers lead busy lives, leaving little time to step back, look at the big picture, and ask questions like: How is my supply chain helping to make my company competitive?  Is my supply chain really serving the larger interests of the corporation?

Too often, supply chain activities are focused on achieving short-term operational results without recognizing the critical role of the supply chain in achieving the objectives of corporate or business unit strategy.  A recent learning from the MIT-CTL Supply Chain 2020 Project found that focusing on increasing customer response to achieve corporate or business unit strategic objectives rather than reducing near term costs and inventories can have a greater overall impact on financial performance.

The lesson is clear: aligning the supply chain with corporate objectives has positive impact on competitiveness and financial performance.

The Opportunity
Companies like Wal-Mart, Toyota, and Dell have successfully leveraged their supply chains to achieve market success. In these companies, the supply chain aligns with corporate strategic objectives by supporting front-office functions such as sales & marketing, playing an integral role in securing long-term business growth and profitability. Specifically, these companies’ operating models and operational performance objectives are tightly aligned to corporate strategy.

The Solution: CTL’s Strategy Alignment Workshop
MIT-CTL’s Strategy Alignment Workshop is a highly interactive two-day on-site workshop that intensively engages executives and managers in learning-by-doing, using a proven and structured methodology.

The process works with real supply chain case studies from inside your own company to walk your executives through the development of excellent supply chains that are competitive.

The workshop is designed to foster the sharing and cross-pollination of knowledge among a broad range of executives and managers. This is aimed at fostering more forward-thinking and collaboratively-based process innovation in a company or business division.

Benefits and Outcomes

  • Executives learn how to align their supply chain strategies, operating models, and operational performance objectives to their corporate or business unit’s go-to-market strategy.
  • They learn how to tailor a set of supply chain practices that are consistent, reinforcing, and cross-optimized to meet the strategically-aligned operational goals.
  • You’ll build team relationships and understandings both within your supply chain and with key corporate functions.

  • Your management team will have new tools for linking your SC strategies to competitiveness, revenue growth, and customer satisfaction.
