The Master of Science in Transportation (MST) is an interdisciplinary program that was established by the Center in 1978 to provide a common basis for addressing a wide range of transportation problems. The MST is now administered by the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering

Students with both an undergraduate engineering degree and sharply defined interests in a single mode might consider one of several other departmental Masters or PhD programs as an alternative.  MIT departments that offer such programs include:

Aeronautics and Astronautics
Mechanical Engineering
Ocean Engineering
Urban Studies & Planning
Sloan School of Management

Please consult the appropriate departments to ascertain which option is best for you.

There several other interdepartmental programs which might be of interest to some transportation students:

The Global Airline Industry Program
The Operations Research Center offers both Masters and PhD programs appropriate for those with primarily methodological interests not focused exclusively on transportation.

The Technology and Policy Program currently offers a Masters degree to students with strong interests in both technology and policy issues, providing an alternative for students interested in policy and technology as it applies to transportation.

The Special Studies in Transportation Program, a part of MIT's Professional Programs, provides an opportunity for practicing professionals to explore new management approaches and analytic methods. Recent subjects offered have included one-week intensives in:

Airport Design
Air Transportation
Public Transportation
Intelligent Vehicle/Highway Systems
Logistics Analysis for Carriers and Shippers
