The private economics look as though automated trucks could replace intermodal on many routes, for millions of loads per year, with both faster transit times and equal or lower shipper costs.   However, the public impacts would include a shift of loads to already stressed and under-funded highways as well as a potential elimination of rail intermodal jobs.  In this talk, Dale will explore a range of driver cost, fuel tax, and truck equipment cost scenarios so we can think about the range of indifference points.
