Visiting PhD Researcher

Daniel is a visiting PhD student and researcher from the Department of Management Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) where he has been researching the topic of  "Cyber risk and security in the global supply chain" since late 2014. In Denmark, Daniel is under the supervision of Prof. Omera Khan and Prof. Jesper Larsen. At MIT-CTL, Daniel is under the sponsorship of Prof. Jim Rice and Prof. Yossi Sheffi.

Daniel has over 12 years of experience working in the supply chain and operations departments of multinational companies. This has focused his research interests towards understanding complex systems and decision making under uncertainty. Some of the methodologies used include Quantitative Analysis such as Numerical Modeling and Machine Learning, System Dynamics and Real Options. 

Prior to starting his PhD, Daniel held a number of operational and senior management positions in the supply chain department of multinational corporations, serving roles such as Project Supply Chain Manager in the BHP Billiton Copper division, Latin American Supply Chain Lead Coordinator for the Coca-Cola Company, working in different locations throughout America including their main manufacturing site in Atlanta, GA, and  Development Engineer for WIKA Alexander Wiegand GmbH in Germany.

Daniel's Industrial experience includes the industrial implementation of Lean Manufacturing and OE (Operational Excellence) practices, auditing supply chain SCOR model, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22001 and OHSAS 18001, several ERP implementation processes, supervision as supply area manager of budgets over US$ 900 million, and negotiation of up to US$ 190 million contracts.

Prior to his PhD studies, Daniel received a Master of Science in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2014, a Masters of Engineering in Industrial Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 2011, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa Maria, Chile in 2001.
